¡°Macaque Kingdom¡± Wulongkou

    Wulongkou Scenic Spot is located in 15km in the northeast away from the downtown of Jiyuan where Qin River leaves the mountain. It comprises of natural and cultural landscapes and is featured in macaque and hot spring. It is a National AAAA Level Scenic Spot and Henan Provincial “Double Top 10” Scenic Spot as well as a National Natural Reserve of Taihang Macaque.

    Wulongkou was once called Qinqufangkou because a canal (qu) was constructed here in Qin Dynasty and the water gate was made of santalum (fang). Qin River flows out of the mountain here, the cliffs are sharp and the water is green, which comprise a fascinating landscape. Early in the Eastern Han Dynasty, Liu Zhuang, the Emperor Ming of Han, built the Princess Garden of Qin River here, and it originated the tunes of “Spring of Qin Garden”. The romantic Emperor Yang of Sui Dynasty visited Wulongkou out of admiration, had dinners and appreciated the beautiful scenes for three days. Bai Juyi, a great poet in Tang Dynasty, praised “Jiyuan is beautiful”, and Emperor Qianlong praised Jiyuan as “famous mountain and wonderful site”.

    The Qin River having flowed for thousands of years creates the special scenes of Wulongkou. “Chinese Landscape Painting Master” Jing Hao, in deep love with his hometown, often painted here and formed a unique style of painting which is quite influencing in later times. The house and gallery of Jing Hao in the scenic spot collects a large amount of writing and painting works.

    Wulongkou Hot Spring is one of the hottest and best medical geothermal mineral springs in the inland containing more than 30 mineral matters and trace elements, which is able to treat more than 20 diseases.

    Wulongkou is the place of the legend of Houyi Shooting the Sun. Yangluo Mountain, Taodu Mountain, Xianglu Mountain, Jianguo Peak, Laojun Peak, and Jinji Peak here are all related to the legend. Spring Festival couplets and Door God evolved from the peach wood charms are also originated here. There are also many peach trees and macaques, and the China Macaque Garden in the scenic spot is the largest taming, breeding, performance and scientific research base of macaque in China.
