¡°The Most Fascinating Place¡± Wangwu Mountain

    Wangwu Mountain is a world geopark and National AAAA Level Scenic Spot in China, covering 265km2. It consists of a high peak and surrounding hills, expressing the emperor temperament. It is a sacred place for the unity of Chinese nation, later becomes a famous mountain of Taoism, and now it is a sacred place for Chinese descends in China and abroad to memorize their ancestors. The legend of Yugong Moving the Mountain takes place here. The municipal mark of Jiyuan is the sculpture of Yugong, which encourages 680,000 citizens to try the best to construct the city.

    The name of Wangwu Mountain means “the shape of the mountain is like an emperor’s house”. It connects Shanxi and Hebei Provinces and is related to Beijing, and also one of the nine famous mountains in ancient China. Its highest peak, Tiantan Mountain, is 1715m above the sea level. It is recorded that the Yellow Emperor came to Wangwu Mountain to offer sacrifices to heaven on the first day of the first month of the first year, then defeated Chi You and unified China, achieved peace and safe, and opened the 5,000 years of Chinese history. Emperor Yellow became a follow of Guang Cheng Zi here, attained the way and became an immortal. All followers get together in Wangwu Mountain on every August 15 in Chinese lunar calendar to memorize the Emperor Yellow, and the founder of Taoism Li Er, immortal Wang Zijin, famous alchemist Yu Ji, Nan Yue female immortal Wei Huacun and Taoist theorist Ge Hong once asked the way here, thus consolidating the leading position of Wangwu Mountain in the 10 Taoist Fascinating Places, and it is called “The Most Fascinating Place”. Significant Taoist buildings were constructed here in Tang Dynasty in succession including Ziwei Palace, Yangtai Palace, Zongxian Palace, Qingxu Palace, Shifang Temple and Lingdu Temple, and it can be described as a temple every three miles and a palace every five miles. From then on, Wangwu Mountain becomes abundant in palaces, temples, master Taoists and worshippers and becomes the National Taoist Center.

    The clouds, trees, streams and mountains of Wangwu Mountain comprise a paradise-like landscape and have attracted many writers and poets. Poets in Tang Dynasty such as Li Bai, Du Fu, Bai Juyi, Wang Wei, Meng Haoran, Li Shangyin and Han Yu lingered and made many immortal works here. “King of Medicine” Sun Simiao built the Cuiwei Hut here in his later years and lived to the end. Climbing the mountain along with the sacred way passes endless temples, Shoulong Ridge, Eighteen Bends, Immortal Bridge, and Zijin Cliff, then reaches the peak of the Tiantan. Currently the Tiantan Ropeway is the longest and steepest sightseeing ropeway in Central China and becomes a modernized scenic spot of Wangwu Mountain.

    Besides, there are five unbelievable astronomical phenomenon here including “Tiantan Reflection” and “Fairy Light of Queen Mother”, the primary forest rare in North China, and rare animals and plants like giant salamander, leopard, ginkgo and yew.
